Saint Paul Fast Facts


Type of school: Private, college-preparatory high school; grades 9-12; founded in 1883.

Enrollment: A little over two hundred students from 16 states and 11 different countries. Over 140 students every year are boarders and 50 to 70 commute from area communities.

Expenses: It is our goal to make an education at Saint Paul accessible financially to as many families as possible. Our tuition and fees are well below the national averge for boarding schools. In addition, National students may inquire about financial aid. All grant and aid is awarded through our on-line FACTS program. Please refer to the link on the left titled, "Grants and Aid." International families will be pleasantly surprised to learn how affordable a Christ-centered education is at Saint Paul High School.

Spiritual life: Saint Paul is a distinctly Christian school and takes its place proudly within the tradition of Lutheran educational institutions. All students are expected to attend chapel and a church and to conduct themselves in accordance with school standards. The school welcomes students of all faiths and denominations who understand the school's character and expectations.

Teachers: Ten-to-one student to teacher ratio. All teachers are committed to continued learning and most already have Master's degrees in addition to undergraduate degrees and normal teaching certification. Easy access to instructors outside of the class day and attention to personal development of students are hallmarks of a Saint Paul education and its teachers. Most of our teachers live adjacent to campus.

Housing and weekend activities: There are two residence halls for 125- - 150 students. US and international students alike are grouped on floors according to age and housed 7-days a week. Faculty-chaperoned activities are planned on campus and off campus each weekend. Students are housed on campus only during the school year (mid-August to mid-May) but not during scheduled holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break, and Easter.

Campus: Forty acres set in the safe and welcoming town of Concordia, Missouri, the campus includes a quadrangle of classroom and residence buildings, a fine arts building, and several large practice fields for sports: track, baseball diamond, soccer pitch, football field, gymnasium. Regular shopping and cultural excursion trips are taken to Kansas City, Missouri, a metropolitan area of about 1.8 million persons, that is about an hour away by car.

Flight access: Direct flights from all over the world arrive at Kansas City International Airport. Student transportation to and from the airport is made readily available by the main office at Saint Paul . The airport code for Kansas City is MCI. .

Accreditation: Saint Paul is accredited by the state of Missouri, National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) and the North Central Association (NCA). Saint Paul was recently awarded the distinction of Exemplary School by the National Lutheran School Accreditation Board.

School year: Typically school begins mid-August and ends mid-May and includes several vacation periods. Important school dates are available on the calendar page.

Academic advisors: Students are assigned to teacher advisors for course planning. Students also begin each day with their advising teacher in homeroom.

Academics: Saint Paul has a college preparatory focus and the overwhelming majority of our students go on to university studies. Review the curriculum page for a complete list of courses.

Sports, student organizations, and clubs: Girls sports include volleyball, cross country, cheer leading, basketball, track and field, soccer, and golf. Boys sports are football, cross country, basketball, track and field, golf, soccer and baseball.

Music activities are available through Singing Saints (nationally acclaimed touring choir), Singing Saints select choirs and concert band.

The school has drama and speech clubs, casts a fall and spring play, and competes in speech competitions.

Other organizations include: Student government, Math Team,
Academic Bowl, STAY (Students Teaching Adolescents and Youth), Yearbook, National Honor Society, and Teens for Life.

Communication with parents: Saint Paul makes regular contact with parents through mailings, email,
Saints Alert, and its Web site. Calls and visits from parents are also welcome and easily accommodated.
