Frequently Asked Questions

When do I apply?
Applications received by the end of October will receive the highest priority of consideration. Families are encouraged to have the application process completed by April 1 to insure the best acceptance opportunity. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis after our first acceptance dates. We may still have openings available in late spring or early summer.

Will my child have a roommate?
Yes, he/she will. At Saint Paul we believe that many valuable learning experiences occur in the residential halls. Having a roommate and learning to get along and appreciate that person is a valuable part of growing in the Saint community.

Are students allowed to bring microwaves, refrigerators, or televisions for their rooms?
While many colleges allow these items, we allow our students to bring a refrigerator and a small air conditioner unit but not microwaves or televisions. Television is available in the lounge on the first floor and microwaves are available in the kitchen on the first floor.

What does my child do if he/she is sick?
Saint Paul has a Director of Health Services available for our students. If a student is sick and needs to be excused from classes, the student will check in with the Director of Health Services and she will assist them with their health care needs. If a student requires professional medical attention, we do have several doctors in Concordia, just minutes from campus, or in the case of a real emergency, there are good hospitals within 30 miles from campus.

What kind of food is served?
Our dining service provides 20 meals each week with breakfast, lunch, and dinner on all days except Saturday when they serve brunch and dinner. There are always a good variety of meals as the menus are on a six-week rotation and each lunch and dinner has salad bar options as well. Students are encouraged to submit family recipes to the dining staff for inclusion in the menu rotations.

Where does my child keep spending money?
Located in our Business Office is the student bank. The bank is open Monday through Friday after school until 4:00 pm. Students may deposit or withdraw funds from their account. Parents may establish a weekly allowance with the Business Office.

How do I find out how my child is doing in class?
Saint Paul faculty meets weekly to discuss the progress of students. Mid-term evaluations are completed and distributed each quarter to the student.. Parents may contact their child’s Advisor or the Principal for additional information. Parents and students are encouraged to follow weekly on Edline, our on-line grading program. A letter is sent to the family at the beginning of the acaademic year with directions regarding establishing an Edline account. Each faculty member has e-mail access and is available to talk with you about a student’s progress.

Can students have cell phones?
Yes, a student may have a cell phone for communication, however, the use of the phone is restricted to after school and weekends. Students may not use cell phones to call, text or message other individuals during the academic day. If cell phones are used during the day, they will be taken to the Principal’s office for return at the close of the academic day.

How is the application process different for international students?
As Saint Paul Lutheran High School does not offer an ESL program, all international students should submit their TOEFL score or SLEP test results. We do offer a single ESL class that will assist students in their first semester with grammatical and vocabulary support for Non-Native English students.

As an international student how do I receive an I-20?
The application packet must be submitted in its entirety along with the application fee of $600. A student must allow sufficient time for an I-20 to be processed and sent to them. Students are responsible for scheduling their Visa interview in their home country. This interview cannot take place without a current I-20 in the hands of the student. If an I-20 is denied, a small refund may be available.
